Attendance

At Leading Futures we believe every learner should strive to achieve 100% attendance

National research has proven that learners who miss school frequently will fall behind with their schoolwork, which has a negative impact on exam performance and can lead to poor social skills and friendship issues. Learners who are persistently absent from school are also at increased risk of becoming involved with anti-social behaviour and crime.

Maintaining good attendance is imperative to ensure that our learners are fully engaged and are not missing any of their learning and development.  Being punctual and attending daily creates a strong work ethic and prepares our learners for life beyond Post-16.

We believe that every learners should strive to achieve 100% attendance.  As parents/carers are legally responsible for making sure the child attends regularly.  Therefore, we have robust systems in place to support families and learners in achieving this goal.  We celebrate learners who have good attendance.

If a learner fails to attend their Leading Future session the following steps will be taken:

  1. Leading Futures will notify the Home School or Local Authority of the learners absence and will record the details of this call

  2. The Home School or Local Authority will then make enquiries about the learners absence in line with their Attendance Policy and Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

  3. An update will be provided to Leading Futures within 30 minutes of the notification call and the details of this call will be record

  4. Leading Futures will then complete a follow up call to see if the parent/carer wishes to discuss the reason for absence and to offer additional support

Parent/Carer Reporting Absence

If a learner is going to be absent, this must be reported by parent/carer each day to Leading Futures by calling Leading Futures on the telephone numbers listed on the bottom of the page.

There is an expectation for parents/carers to notify the home school of any planned absence or holiday. We would always discourage planned absence during term time as it's important to maintain regular attendance for your child.

If parents/carers are considering taking a learner out of school, we ask that you complete the Leading Futures leave of absence notification form. This allows the provision to plan for your child's absence accordingly.
